April 27, 2011 - A new study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that the smoking cessation drug Chantix may work better if people take it several weeks before trying to quit. Researchers found that those who started Chantix a month before the quit date were more likely to be abstinent at the three-month mark: 47.2% were abstinent compared with 20.8% of the people in the placebo group. This study, while preliminary, also gave evidence that the product not only helped smokers quit but helped others reduce their levels on smoking.
