November 19, 2010 - Recent studies evaluating tobacco cessation practices in community pharmacies concluded that pharmacists have the necessary training to screen and identify patients using tobacco for cessation counseling. Patients are generally receptive to cessation interventions by their community pharmacists. Some barriers faced include lack of time and formal training, heavy workflow, and reimbursement issues. However, once the barriers are addressed, community pharmacy-based interventions have the potential to be successful.
