22nd Century Awarded Grant for Smoking Cessation Aid

November 12, 2010 - The U.S Government recently awarded 22nd Century Limited, LLC with $224,000 in grant money as part of the Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project program. The grant is to be used to support clinical trials for the company’s new tobacco cessation prescription product candidate, called X-22. This product is a smoking cessation kit with very low nicotine (VLN) cigarettes designed to help wane smokers off of nicotine.  Independent studies have already demonstrated that VLN cigarettes from 22nd Century aid in quitting by satisfying cravings while reducing nicotine exposure and dependence. The hopes are that X-22, with FDA approval, will be more attractive to current smokers than other available therapies and will increase quit attempts. As Mr. Pandolfino, CEO of 22nd Century says, “The math is simple, more quit attempts lead to fewer smokers.”
